Visual Itinerary
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
The safari begins with a pickup at your beach hotel or at the Mombasa port. We’ll take the Mombasa – Nairobi Highway to Tsavo East. You’ll take in the sights of fields, homesteads and the people of Kenya on your journey to Tsavo East National Park. Entering the park, our game drives will begin as we scan the grasslands for lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino.
We’ll enjoy some big advantages in our game spotting as we head to the attractive Aruba Dam, a man-made structure that has created a vibrant reservoir. Great populations of the park’s wildlife come here for the life-sustaining water. Also, at the Kanderi marsh area, we’ll be looking for the pride of lions that reside near this green oasis. Other species such as elephants and giraffe seek nourishment here.
As we depart the reserve for nearby Tsavo West National Park, we’ll keep our eyes out for more big game and over 500 species of birds that fill the reserve. Soon we’ll come upon the massive savannah at Tsavo West, accented with volcanic remnants and lush green areas. We’ll head to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary and carefully explore the area, looking for the shy elusive rhino
Overnight at your Tsavo west safari lodge/ tented camp.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We’ll be up before the sun to watch the dawn illuminate the plains around us. The first wildlife awakens, venturing out into the open savannah as we experience the park coming to life. After breakfast, we’ll venture forth once more in search of hunters and grazers. We’re sure to spot wildlife at Mudanda Rock, a whale-backed formation creating a natural dam. This unique watering hole is a natural draw for elephants and other animals looking for water in this wild and rugged park.
Later, we’ll take the short drive to neighboring Tsavo West. But this jaunt will also be a game drive as we cross from park to park looking for the “Big Five” and the lesser wildlife. At Tsavo West National Park, we’ll make a stop at a unique enclosure – the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. This 70 sq. km (27 sq. mi) protected area is home to some 80 black rhino and is one of the few places where one can view these massive but shy creatures.

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch
We have lots to see today so it’s an early rise, along with the sun and the wildlife. We’ll head out on our dawn game drive as we observe the animals emerging from the bush in the awakening light – all of us sharing great expectations for the coming day. After breakfast, we’ll take a break from the rugged terrain of the park and travel to Mzima Springs, a lush watering hole fed by a clear torrent of underground waters. This is one of the few places we can leave our safari vehicle and step out amongst palm-lined shores.
It should be easy to spot the aquatic life here – hippos, crocodiles, exotic fish and birds. This verdant watering hole also attracts the park’s other thirsty citizens such as zebra, giraffe and lots of monkeys. We’ll fill out the rest of our stay with more adventurous game drives before finally exiting the park.
Now it’s time to head back to the Kenya coast. You’ll arrive back at your hotel or resort in the late afternoon with tales of wondrous animal spotting.
