Visual Itinerary
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
The safari begins with a pick-up at your beach hotel or resort. We’ll take the scenic Mombasa – Nairobi Highway, viewing farmlands and Kenya countryside along the way.
Entering Tsavo West you’ll be struck by its vast savannah and rolling hills. But what you might not expect are the forms of recent lava beds punctuating the park. You’ll find other volcanic remnants such as cinder cones in this legendary reserve, as well as lush spring-fed oases. The wildlife here is varied and unexpected. Not only will we be on the lookout for the “Big Five” but we may also see ostrich, monkey, baboon, and aquatic creatures. After a break for lunch, we’ll try our luck spotting for black rhino in the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary on the grounds of the park. There are over 80 of these shy and endangered creatures roaming the protected enclosure.
Overnight at your Tsavo west safari lodge/ tented camp.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We’ll be visiting two national parks today, so we’ll be up early and launch our adventure with a pre-breakfast game drive. Heading out in our Jeep we’ll be looking for wildlife emerging into the dawn.
After a satisfying breakfast, we’ll venture out again, this time headed for Mzima Springs. This oasis is a cool, shaded contrast to the rugged terrain of the park. Here, by the spring-fed waters we’ll look for crocodile, hippo, bright birdlife and fish. And we won’t be the only visitors as much of the park’s wildlife is drawn to the life-sustaining waters here.
We’ll enjoy a final game drive at Tsavo West, as we exit the reserve on the short drive to Amboseli National Park. Look for the imposing form of Mt. Kilimanjaro that stands sentinel over this small but active park. Amboseli is known for its elephants, and you will see them here, foraging and parading in grand form to and from the local watering holes. With Kilimanjaro forming a majestic backdrop for the stream of wildlife marching before it, Amboseli is one of the most photographed parks in the world.
Overnight at your AMBOSELI safari lodge/ tented camp.
We’ll be up for a pre-breakfast game drive to catch the first stirrings and enjoy the filtered light of early morning. After a big safari breakfast at your accommodation, we’ll set out for a relaxed mid-morning drive. This entire day will be spent on game drives, enjoying Amboseli’s diversity of wildlife. But there will also be time to relax as well. Just let us know how active… or relaxing you’d like your day to be.
Lunch follows, as does an afternoon safari. We’ll pass by or through the park’s 5 wildlife environments: wetlands, savannah, woodlands, thorn-bush and dry lakebed, ensuring us a variety of sights and animals.Between drives, you can relax and enjoy other activities such as an optional visit to the local Maasai village to meet the people and learn about their distinctive herding culture.Your time is yours to do as you want.
We’ll enjoy a second night here in the park.
We’ll rise with the dawn for a pre-breakfast game drive and perhaps a clear view of Kilimanjaro’s white-capped summit. A hearty safari breakfast follows to fortify us for the day ahead. On our final game drive as we depart the park, we’ll be looking for lion, cheetah and hyena… and we’ll bid farewell to the elephants of Amboseli. Now we’re back on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway as we make tracks to Tsavo East National Park, Kenya’s largest.
Here at Tsavo, the terrain is rugged and sparse, but that only makes the game viewing more accessible. We’ll be looking for the big hunters and grazers, especially the “red-dust” elephants. The giant beasts here like to roll in the red oxide soil, giving themselves a hearty coating of the rusty colour. We will have a relaxing afternoon, tracking the many species of the park, including over 500 types of birds. It’s been a busy day and as the sunset approaches, we’ll freshen up for dinner and the evening ahead.
We’ll settle in for our final safari night at your choice of accommodation.
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch
We’ll get up… early! There’s so much to see here at Tsavo. After appreciating the wildlife as it emerges into the light, we’ll head back for breakfast. During our stay at Tsavo East, we’ll visit some of its famous watering holes like Mudanda Rock and Aruba Dam, where a multitude of wildlife seek the life-sustaining waters. Don’t be surprised to find every sort of species sharing this communal space.
Our drive back to the coast will easy and relaxed. We’ll stop at an open-air restaurant. We should arrive back at the coast in the late afternoon or early evening and will bring you right up to the door of your resort or hotel.
